Think I've found my melee WH Captain Crit builds.

Dodge version
Dual Wield Swords or Hammers for Crit hit or crit damage
ST 5 TO 10 AG 15 LD 15 It 9 AL 9 WS 15 BS 5 AC 12
Knowledge Tactics x2, Avoid x2, Side Step x2, Fatality x2, Vital Strike x2 or Frenzy X2

Parry version
Dual Wield Swords or Hammers, or Sword/Hammer and Shield
ST 12 TO 12 AG 6 LD 15 It 9 AL 9 WS 15 BS 5 AC 12
Knowledge Tactics x2, Flash Parry or Shield Spec x2, Web of Steel x2, Strong Blow x2, Fatality x2

Dodge version will crit more often with Vital strike being the core attack. The Parry Version will have higher base damage from Strong Blow but not quite crit as often. Both have a base 25% crit using 2 swords.

I've played a good amount of time on Witch Hunters now, have a level 10 warband with a few roster changes, so more like 1-2 lvl 10 warbands. I've tried a lot of variations using melee/parry/dodge tanks and I had an idea for a potentially devastating combo.

I've played a couple Templars to 10 and I love them. They make great parry and MR tanks, the latter with books to boost Alertness to get Mastery in Awareness. But for this WB idea, I decided to focus on pure damage with glass tank MR builds on my WH Heroes (3) and Leader. Surviving long enough for the War Priest, the 4th hero, to heal/shield/deny as needed in fights. This has turned out really well so far but I'm considering tweaking the leader from what I currently have to one that more focuses on his default passive skill.

For a WH Hero, you can max their strength out at 12, so 15 with book. This opens up Daredevil to you. I love the combo of DD and Frenzy on Impressives, but without a stance these WH glass cannons won't last a round. But DD damage is just so insane so I built around that. I max out WS and S (15 w/ training and grimore) to focus on damage and hitting in combat. Then I max alertness to build a decent MR + stance for defense.

Skills (w/ book of abilities)
- Active: Defensive Stance Mastery, Daredevil Mastery, Strong Blow Basic
- Passive: Purge the Heretic Mastery, Awareness Mastery, Fatality Mastery, Shield Specialist Mastery

This gives a decent MR, and when combined with a War Priest with Deny the Heretic at Mastery, usually means a target 1 for enemies.

I build 2-3 of these around a dodge tank leader with high crit, although I think I need to work on this build. My latest build for my captain has maxed (15) WS, Acc, Alert, and Agility. I accomplished this with books.

Skills (w/ book of abilities)
- Active: Sidestep Mastery, Vital Strike Mastery, Introspection Basic
- Passive: Hunter's Patience Mastery, Counter Blow Mastery, Swift Counter Mastery, Fatality Mastery

With this guy, he can fire off 3 vitals or 3 basic attacks and a vital and then pop introspection to generate 1 red pill. Then with the combo of swift counter and hunter's patience, could potentially fire off 3 more counter attacks. With a high base crit, a sword, and possibly an enchantment to boost crit, I hope to see my fair share of crits with such high volume of attacks.

As soon as a target is stunned, I disengage him and then let the WH heroes trigger Daredevil and strong blow the stunned target to paste. It works fairly well, I typically do Brutal and Exceptional missions for more shards and rarely have anyone put OOA. But I could be lucky. :) But no stunned target, aside from maybe a demon/impressive, will hold up to 2-3 WH Heroes doing 100+ damage per strike.

Any suggestions on how I can improve this tactic? I've never built for counters, I played Mercs for a long time and never really took advantage of the captain's passive.

What is everyone else thinking about the WH warband? I'm really enjoying them. Seems like they work better together more than the mercs. I haven't played sisters, chaos, or skaven yet though so maybe this is common.

Have you been successful with your builds?

Thanks for your time!

Super late reply here - sorry about that, Ticon! Glad they were of use to you. I've certainly made my share of mistakes and had my share of hard lessons. Please feel free to reach out to me if you ever have any questions!

Has anyone used flagellants as dodge tanks instead of glass cannons? Their max toughness and agility as well as being fearless lends themselves to this.

I got my first Templar Knight to Level 10 without taking any permanent damage last night. His important stats are as follows: S12 T14 A3 WS18. Skills are Web of Steel 2, Armour Proficient 2, Shield Specialst 2, Unstoppable 1 and +30 wounds (forgot the name of the skill).
Equipment is currently purple armour and helmet (no enchantment yet), Blue Sword of Enfeeblment, Blue shield which grants hp when you parry
